Street frontage renovations for POST Headquarters in downtown Palo Alto were completed in mid March of this year. KKDG worked with POST over an 8 year span of time in the development of design concepts, obtaining design approvals and permits from the City of Palo Alto, formulating cost evaluation and phasing strategies, obtaining competitive construction bids and observing construction.
POST was founded in 1977 and has since saved over 75,000 acres of open space and parkland on the San Francisco Peninsula and south, via private donors and state and federal funding mechanisms. Due to a shared vision of the value of our natural open space resources and a recognition of fair and ethical means in acquiring these properties, KKDG has provided all our services pro bono.
During construction many sustainable practices were implemented including: the use of pervious concrete in the parking lot to reduce off-site storm water flow and creek contamination, the use of locally quarried stone from California for walls and paving, the use of California only native plantings, the use of low energy LED site lighting, an engineered soil mix for tree plantings and a new water conserving irrigation system utilizing an on-site weather monitor.
