Shelby joined Kikuchi + Kankel Design Group in the Spring of 2021. After graduating from The University of Oregon with a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, she worked in Eugene, where she gained valuable experience working on community oriented, corporate and institutional projects. She received her undergraduate degree in Media Arts and Animation from the Art Institute of California – Silicon Valley. Searching for the place between media and nature has been a driving force in Shelby’s career path, from a young age she held an interest in fine arts and history and views the design of our physical environment as an extension of that creative spirit. During her time at U of O, Shelby’s work and interests highlighted sustainable, pedestrian-friendly redevelopment and housing projects, connection to place, the cultural landscape and urban design. Her thesis project centered around her hometown of San Jose, and focused on ‘Developing Sustainable Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Guidelines’ for the city.
At KKDG Shelby brings her long time experience in digital software and her passion for walkable, sustainable design. She cares for the experience that an outdoor space can provide for the end user and strives to find fun and interesting solutions to each design problem.
When Shelby isn’t working on designs, she can be found curled up with her dogs and a good book, or out exploring nature. Her interest in culture and exploration has sparked a love for travel where new landscapes and delicious street food fuel each new adventure.
